Boardgames as Educational Leave
In most states of Germany employees are entitled to 5 days of educational leave in addition to their annual leave to attend recognized events serving personal, political or professional educational purposes.
Boardgames have always been a mirror of societies, their citizens and their conflicts.
Inventors and designers keep creating games where you explore new perspectives and acquire new skills and insights.
This is why we cooperate with the educational team of the Political Education Center Helmstedt to offer the Seminar „Experiencing Society and History through Boardgames“.
During the week you will have access to many and varied board games during the seminar time slots.
In
selecting the collection we focused on titles that represent current
and historic situations and decisions especially vividly and
understandably. As players you take on the roles of decisionmakers in
these scenarios to experience them first hand.
For each seminar time
slot you choose which games and themes are of particular interest to you
and who you would like to explore them with.
The game rooms remain open for open play after dinner.
BIG-Con Seminar is designed as a political education experience and the full week package is recognized for educational leave in North-Rhine-Westphalia. We have also applied for recognition in Lower Saxony and Berlin.

Overnight stay at the venue
What makes a Con with accomodations so special is that late at night, after a long day of fun and gaming you don't have to worry about getting home.
A bed and a shower are waiting just a few short steps away just like the morning will bring a glorious breakfast buffet and a short walk back to the Morning Games Meetup.
No matter if you'd like to be there all week or just a few days, this is where you find the right tickets.

The Politische Bildungstätte Helmstedt is a seminar house in adult education at the former inner german border right by Autobahn A2.

You will stay in a double bed room with seperate beds. Each room has a bathroom with shower and WC. Sheets and towels are included.
We will accomodate requests for who you would like to share a room with to the extent possible.
If you would like to have a room to yourself or bring a dog, you can find the upgrade for that below. - Lodging
Your overnight stay includes the Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and a Coffeebreak with cake in the afternoon. The kitchen team has vegetarian, vegan, lactose- and glutenfree products and dishes available for you. - Seminar Content
During the day time slots, you will split into game groups and choose games and topics that interest you from the games library. The rules teach will include additional societal and historic background information regarding the situations, roles and concepts in the game. You will then get to experience the roles and decisions for yourself while playing the games. - Educational Leave
The full week ticket for BIG-Con Seminar is a recognized "educational leave" offer in Berlin and North-Rhine-Westphalia. It is requested for Niedersachsen.
If you are employed in one of these Bundesländer, we can provide you the necessary forms and confirmations to use your the "educational leave" entitlement you have in addition to your annual leave for this seminar.
If your employer is in another Bundesland, they may still voluntarily recognize the event for educational leave upon request. Otherwise please get in touch and we can discuss what other options there might be. - Game Room
The Con Badge, that you will receive for the duration of your stay, grants you access to the Game Room.
Saturday to Thursday the Game Room will open from 09:00 until the end of the final game round, usually well after Midnight.
On Arrival day the Game Room opens from about mid day on and on departure day the room is only available for packing and arranging departure. - Arrival
On Arrival Day your room is available from 14:00 on. - Abreise

The event will only proceed if there are at least 15 participants. - Payment
A down payment of 20% of the total price is due once you receive the booking confirmation and the insurance certificate. The remainder is due no later than 28 days before the event.
